What does Port Ellen whisky taste like? This Douglas Laing Port Ellen 23 Years Old 1983 56.7%  Old & Rare – The Platinum Selection Bottled for The Whisky Fair bottling tastes like:
Nose: perfumey coastal oil, light grassy peat, viney, sour concentrated grape juice
Palate: fiery yet slick on the tongue, viciously dry with a chilli oil kinda note, elegant but distinct grassy peat with a good touch of salty mineralicity, a small lick of mango peel, black tea leaves on the finish
What do we think of this bottle of Port Ellen whisky?
A great Port Ellen that I decided that I could not finish on the day itself, so I took it back in a sample bottle to enjoy another time. This was a great Port Ellen that hit with a more distinct peated note compared to fruity, which was a stark contrast to a fair few of the Port Ellens that I had at the event itself!
