Review – Kavalan Solist Oloroso Sherry Cask

Looking to drink Kavalan Taiwanese whisky in Singapore? This sample of Kavalan Solist Oloroso Sherry Cask was drank at CellarFiesta held at Suntec Convention Center from 12-14 July 2024. CellarFiesta is organized by CellarbrationThis bottle was introduced by La Maison du Whisky.

Nose: classic oloroso

Palate: strong tannic, acrid rubbery

I mean, I am no stranger to Kavalan seeing as to how I’ve been to the distillery. This Oloroso sherry cask Solist bears straightforward Oloroso sherry notes, which is the more sweet and delectable grapey tones with the thicker sherry feel. However, we do get the tannicness that we experience with the Port cask and Vinho Barrique bottlings, making this yet another tongue scorching surprise. The acrid rubberness describes that childhood balloon stick thingy that you can squeeze from a tube and manually blow up. Overall, a fairly standard expression that never disappoints.
